News

What changed in the game, update by update: the changelog.

22 October 2026: the site is a desk now

You are looking at it: the site moved into a Windows 98 desk, and The Roost 98 moved in with it. Type !login in the game chat, put the code into the Log in window, and you get a profile page of your own, a Control Panel for its look, and the Bot Manager behind the icons on the left. Two accounts can be joined into one from the Control Panel: your level, your gold, your mechas and your matches add up.

Bug reports take pictures now, up to four, and you can send more of them in a day. Logged in, the report knows who you are and lists your last matches, so you only pick the one it happened in.

Your browser in dark mode? The desk follows it with a night look.

14 October 2026: ask me anything

I'm going to do a Q&A on Twitch and answer your questions live. Anything about the server: what works, what's next, how something was done, why something is the way it is.

Type !ama in the game chat to get your code, then send me two questions on the AMA page: one that really matters to you and one smaller one. Tell me there when you'd like the stream, in your own time, and I'll go with the time that suits most of you.

Nobody sees the questions before the stream. When I go live, the order gets drawn at random, the important ones first.

27 September 2026, evening: the numbers

The SMC research center sent me their documents on balancing: what every weapon did per hit in the original game, at what distance, on which body part. I went through them number by number against this server and adjusted what was off. Most of it was right already. What changed is below.

Thank you to the research center for the work. If a number feels wrong in a fight, tell me which weapon, how far away, and what you saw. The full list is in the changelog.

27 September 2026: one door

Hey. Some of you got in through an installer that wasn't mine, and since this morning it doesn't get you in any more. I'm sorry it hit you like that. I know it sucks, and it isn't your fault. I should have made the rule below clear from day one instead of assuming it was.

The rule: this server is for the game as Steam installs it, started through Steam, with the kit from this page. That's the one door. Copies that start without Steam, or with a replaced Steam file, are refused at login. Kits, installers and launchers repackaged by other people are not mine and get no support here.

Nothing of the game ships from here, and I can't point you to a copy or a launcher either. The game belongs to NetEase and I stay on the right side of that line. If Super Mecha Champions is in your Steam library, you're in: install it, run the kit, pick the server. Your account and progress are waiting.

What the door checks beyond that stays with me. Nothing personal, it works better that way.

Stuck? Write to smc-help@horsecock.art.

How to join

  1. Install Super Mecha Champions from Steam. Steam must be running and logged in.
  2. Start the game once without the kit. Let it download every update until it says it can't connect.
  3. Close the game.
  4. Download the kit and unzip it (right-click, Extract All).
  5. Double-click Install-SMC.cmd. Click Yes when Windows asks for permission.
  6. Start the game from Steam again and pick the server SMC-Steam-US.

Do the steps in this order. If the kit goes on before the game has finished updating, the update can undo it.

To undo everything, run Uninstall-SMC.cmd.

What you can play

Survival, in Solo and Squad. A match starts once two players are waiting and gives others 45 seconds to join. Bots fill every match up to 99, so you get a full game either way. Die, and you can watch the rest of the match before you go back to the lobby.

Squad: invite up to two friends from the lobby and queue together. You land as one team of up to three, your shots don't hurt each other, and a downed teammate can be picked up. Go down for good and you watch your team; if they win, you win. Teams are not filled up: queue Squad alone or as two and you play short. The friends list works too.

Team Deathmatch: two teams, respawns, Back to Base, no bots. You can join a match that is already running.

Duo is closed for now. Two friends can queue Squad together.

Between matches: the sign-in calendar, daily missions that pay Crystals, mecha mastery, pilot bond and talents, the Career page and the Boot Camp all count. Core 2 is back for most mechas, and you can try your mecha on the waiting island before the drop. A lost connection no longer ends your match: log back in and you are where you were.

Want company in the lobby? Type !public in the chat to walk around one shared hangar with everyone else who did. !public leave takes you out again.

A bot of your own: the Bot Manager gives you a bot that plays in real matches, with a face and a name you pick. Log in on this site and it is one of the icons on the left.

Your level and what you earn stay on your account. The shop and the lotteries work, mecha and weapon skins too. Top-up is switched off, so nothing here costs real money.

Which mecha next?

Every mecha needs work before it plays the way it did, so they come in packs, a few at a time. You choose the order: vote for your three mechas. No account needed.

Not working yet

  • Bot teams. In Squad every bot still fights alone.
  • Training Ground, Arena 1v1 and Free Arena. They are marked closed in the mode chooser.
  • Voice chat. Text chat works.

What the kit changes

  • p_script.npk: adds one small script so the game connects here.
  • cacert.pem: adds our certificate.
  • Your hosts file: points the old NetEase addresses at this server.

Each file is backed up first. The kit is plain text, so you can read it before running it: README, installer, game script, address list.

FAQ

Can I get mechas or pilots for free?

Yes. Every account gets three free mechas and two free pilots of its choice. In the lobby, type in the world chat, one pick at a time:

  1. !pick to see what you have left, and !pick mechas or !pick pilots for the names.
  2. !pick and the name, for example !pick Raven.
  3. The server repeats the name. If it's the one you want, type !yes within 60 seconds. Anything else cancels.

Nobody else sees these messages. It works in the lobby only, not during a match, and you can't pick something you already own. Once you type !yes it's final, so check the name first. Picked the wrong one by mistake? Email us (address under Help).

Rules

There is only one, and you already know it: don't do to others what you wouldn't want done to you. Play fair, no cheats, no insults, and be a good person about it. That's the whole rulebook.

Money

I don't want any. Not for the server, not for the kit, not for an account, not as a thank-you. There is no donate button here and there won't be one. Play, have fun, bring a friend: that's the whole payment.

If anyone asks you to pay for access to this server, for a kit or for an installer, that isn't me. Don't pay them, and tell me.

Good to know

  • The server sees your Steam ID and what you do in game, never your password.
  • The game has to run through Steam, with the files Steam installed. Copies of the game that start without Steam, or with a replaced Steam file, are refused. Kits repackaged by other people are not ours: get the kit here.
  • Gray screen at start? Reinstall the game first; that usually fixes it. If it comes back, Windows Security removed the video player: run Allow-SMC-Defender.cmd from the kit.
  • If the server is down, it's probably being worked on. Try again later.
