After exiting the mech, the pilot now has to reload manually; previously, reloading happened automatically after exiting.
You remembered it right, and two more players reported the same. Nothing in the game files does this reload, so it was the original server's job. With the 6 October update your pilot's guns are reloaded when you get into the mecha, so they are full when you climb out. Please retest.
